From complex vehicle control to an intuitive all-in-one solution
Current Situation
Modern fire trucks combine a wide range of functions: pump control, lighting, sensors, camera systems, and more.
These systems have often evolved over time, are technically complex, and are not always intuitive to use – especially when operating under time pressure.
Challenge
Operations must be fast, error-free, and reliable even under stress or when wearing gloves. At the same time, the demands on connectivity, diagnostics, and maintenance are increasing.
Solution
Together, we developed a central touchscreen software application that clearly consolidates all functions.
Based on Embedded Linux and Qt, we developed a high-performance, stable system featuring intuitive user guidance, a modular architecture, and integrated remote maintenance.

Central controls in the vehicle cockpit
The software is integrated directly into the Rosenbauer Panther’s cockpit and combines key vehicle functions, driver assistance systems, and information displays into a single user interface.
The touchscreen display gives drivers and emergency responders quick access to relevant functions – from vehicle status and controls to cameras and navigation. This ensures that everything remains clear, accessible, and easy to operate, even in complex emergency situations.

The HMI software displays important information such as warnings, operating statuses, fill levels, and control functions in a clearly structured manner.
Large icons, streamlined menus, and intuitive navigation ensure that functions can be quickly understood and used with confidence.
The combination of a touchscreen and physical buttons ensures reliable operation – even when moving, under stress, or while wearing gloves in real-world use.
The Project Timeline
1. Analysis & System Understanding
Close coordination with hardware and vehicle teams; defining requirements and user flows in real-world operating contexts.
2. Development & Integration
Implementation of the software on Embedded Linux using C++/Qt, integration of CAN bus, camera systems, and existing control components.
3. Prototyping & Early Validation
Development of hardware and software prototypes to enable early testing of critical technologies – even if the prototype is not yet intended for mass production.
