Configure, stream, and integrate IP cameras

Digital camera systems are becoming increasingly important in vehicles, machinery, and industrial applications.

At the same time, the demands on configuration, performance, and integration into existing software environments are increasing.

For this purpose, we have developed the Sequality IP Camera Configurator: a cross-platform application for Windows, Linux, and Embedded Linux that allows users to detect, set up, monitor, and test IP cameras.

In addition, a powerful C++ API was developed that allows camera functions to be integrated directly into custom applications.

Making technical camera systems easy to use

Challenge

IP cameras in technical systems must do more than just provide an image.

They must be discoverable on the network, properly configured, monitored, and presented in a high-performance manner.

Hardware acceleration, appropriate streaming pipelines, and reliable integration into the existing architecture play a key role, particularly in embedded systems.

The challenge was to create a solution that could be used for both testing and configuration as well as for actual product integrations.

Solution

We have developed an application that allows users to connect to, configure, and monitor IP cameras in real time.

This includes network settings, resolution, compression, bitrate, FPS, and settings in the ROI Configurator.

Another key feature is the video preview via GStreamer. This allows streams not only to be displayed, but also to be specifically optimized for different hardware platforms.

For custom product solutions, a C++ API is also available, which allows functions from the Configurator to be integrated directly into your own Qt, QML, or Embedded Linux applications.

An Overview of Software

Automatic camera detection

The Configurator automatically detects supported IP cameras on the network and makes them available for selection. This makes connecting to the camera much easier and eliminates the need to manually search for IP addresses.

Flexible video configuration

Resolution, compression, bitrate, FPS, and ROI settings can be adjusted directly through the interface. This allows camera streams to be tailored specifically to the application, hardware, and performance requirements.

Integration into your own applications

The C++ API for ISO 17215 (Road Vehicles – Video Communication Interface for Cameras (VCIC)) allows you to integrate the Configurator’s functions into your own software solutions. This is particularly relevant when camera streams are not only to be configured but also permanently integrated into HMIs, QtQuick/QML applications, or technical user interfaces.
