At Embedded World 2025 Sequality will exhibit as a partner of the OSADL booth (Hall 4-168). We will show our new camera streaming app module on an i.Mx8 Embedded Linux board and are open to all questions about the use of open source software in automotive and industrial projects. Our demo demonstrates important performance factors when integrating automotive-grade Ethernet cameras in Embedded Linux Qt software. We are looking forward to your questions!
We are exciting to be part of the annual Embedded World Exhibition & Conference 2025 in Nuremberg! As last year (see our blog post from 2024: https://www.sequality.at/blog/2024/sequality-embedded-world-2024/ ) we are again part of the exhibition booth of our partner OSADL. Together we share the common interest to support our clients and partners with the usage of open source technology in industry products.
This year we share the following with you:
- The Sequality Camera Streaming App Module shows an optimal integration of an automotive-grade IP camera (ArkCam Basic Plus Mini, resolution 1280 x 960) with an Toradex Apalis i.Mx8 QuadMax. Performance figures like low video latency and low CPU load can be achieved with the usage of the hardware decoder of the i.Mx8 in combination with an optimal setup of the Embedded Linux software stack with Qt and gstreamer backend. - Open Source in industry projects: We are open to discuss any of your questions concerning the usage of open source in industry products! Through the last 15 years, many of our clients have chosen to purely use open source licenses for critical industry products (automotive, medical, automation). Key topics include GPL, LGPL, written offers, Software bill of material (SBOM) and using Qt in an open source environment.
Update April 2025:
The following topics have left an impression on us from the view of an embedded software engineer:- CRA and NIS2 – EU Cyber Resilience Act: Many companies offer their help to support this topic on an Embedded Linux Board-Support package level. Some offer a CVE (Common Vulnerability Exposure) Dashboard that generates a report based on the „fingerprint“ of your embedded linux software configuration, sometimes even with included license information generation. As one of our partners at OSADL formulated: „CVE-report generation can be an extension of Open Source License-information generation, as both needs the same information basis“.
- Secure Boot and Open Source? How can this be achieved? At first this seems impossible, as Secure Boot tries to achieve the opposite to most Open Source licenses. Secure Boot aims to make it impossible that any changes to the software system can be made, whereas most Open Source licenses require that the system has the technical possiblity to modify the open source parts of the system. A practical solution can be achieved to implement so-called „Send-in Offer“: If the end-user has the desire to change the open source parts of the system, he can send-in the system to the manufacturer who then unlocks the device for the end-user (=disable secure boot). Along with this, most manufacturer decide to void the warranty and any further software support for this unlocked device.
